About the role
Haringey Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head of Residential Building Safety. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering Haringey’s strategy for building safety, ensuring that our residents feel safe in their homes. Key responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of the building safety strategy, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, providing assurance and support to Haringey Council as the Accountable Person for residential building safety, raising competency standards and improving the safety culture for all staff involved in our asset management and housing strategies, and ensuring the delivery of Haringey’s vision, values, and strategic objectives by providing clear direction, support, guidance, and effective leadership.
About the team
As the Head of Residential Building Safety, you will be a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the Director of Housing. You will lead a dedicated team of four direct reports, each specialising in critical areas such as building safety, fire assessments, fire projects, and asbestos management.
About you
The ideal candidate for the Head of Residential Building Safety role will be a proven senior manager with a track record in ensuring fire and building safety across a large and complex property portfolio. They will possess extensive knowledge of building safety legislation, compliance, and regulatory obligations, along with substantial experience in developing robust reporting and data frameworks using effective software packages to ensure compliance and building safety management. The candidate will have significant experience in contract management, holding both internal and external contractors accountable for performance and value for money (VFM). They will also have substantial experience in programming compliance and building works, ensuring efficiency while being mindful of customer preferences. Financial and commercial acumen is essential, as the candidate will be accountable for large capital and revenue budgets. A track record of collaborative working as part of an effective senior team is crucial, and experience working with a Board or elected members would be advantageous. The candidate should hold a relevant professional qualification, be a member of a professional body, or have equivalent work experience, and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
