We’ve got some great talent. I want to give that talent the chance to make the most of it. Ideas and ambition. This is what we need.

Ann Graham – Director of Children’s Services

Social Care

Making a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people is a huge responsibility. To take it on,  we’ll empower you to be your best self and enable you to make the most of your passion, energy and belief in doing the right thing. We’ll listen to your views and value what you do. Because everyone has a part to play in delivering a service that keeps getting better and achieves the best outcomes. This means being ambitious for their future and working in partnership with other services to make this happen.

The service includes:

  • Fostering and Adoption
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Disabled Children’s Services
  • Children in Need of Support and Protection
  • Children in Care
  • Safeguarding Quality, Improvement and Practice
  • Young Adults, and Residential Children’s Homes
  • MASH

Schools and Learning

High-quality education for all pupils and young people is our goal here. Achieving it means working in close partnership with our schools and educational providers. We manage this relationship, set the strategy and make sure the OfSTED framework for schools’ improvement is well met.

We cover everything from Early Years and Education Services to Education Welfare and Virtual School

Early Help, Prevention and SEND

When problems arise for children, young people and their families, early support heads off the need for specialist intervention later. Some of our services are wholly focused on children with special education needs and disabilities (SEND). Whatever we do, our aim is to achieve better outcomes for everyone and develop strong resilience within families. This means taking a joined-up, whole-family focused approach across a range of universal and targeted services. We are supported in this by working with wider council services and alongside our partners, such as schools, health, police, voluntary sector and local communities.

This team includes:

  • Children Centres
  • Family Support
  • Universal and Targeted Youth Services
  • Information, Advice and Guidance
  • SEND and Inclusion
  • Youth Justice Service
