About the role

The Health and Safety Adviser (Capital Works and Contracts) role at Haringey Council is a critical position responsible for providing competent and professional health and safety advice and support to Council services, ensuring continuous improvement in performance. You will support the Senior Health and Safety Adviser (Property and Trades) by aiding the development, implementation, promotion, review, and monitoring of the Council’s Health and Safety Management Systems and associated policies and procedures.

As an integral part of the team, you will have the chance to work closely with professionals from diverse departments, gaining invaluable exposure to the inner workings of a dynamic and impactful organisation. About you

We are seeking a proactive individual with a strong drive to support services in the council that undertake capital works and contracts. The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent being NVQ Level 5 and above) and GradIOSH (or equivalent professional membership being IIRSM). The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience of working on projects and contracts, providing examples of how they have overcome challenges. They will also have experience in offering competent health and safety advice in the public sector or for other large multi-site organisations, based on detailed knowledge of the practical application of current occupational health and safety legislation, best practice in accident and ill-health prevention, and other related issues. This will involve offering creative, constructive, and cost-effective solutions.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate impeccable written and verbal communication skills, consistently upholding a standard of professionalism in all interactions. Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, will be essential in efficiently managing tasks and facilitating seamless communication within the team. Additionally, the candidate should possess exceptional organisational prowess, adeptly handling multiple tasks and prioritising them for optimal efficiency. Their demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion will be a cornerstone of their success in this role, ensuring the smooth and secure functioning of health and safety processes and procedures.
