About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

This is your chance to lead a service that directly improves the lives of children and families across Haringey. As SEND Travel Assistance Operations Manager, you’ll take ownership of the day-to-day delivery of our Home to School travel assistance offer—from vehicle transportation (buses and taxis) to Independent Travel Training and Travel Buddies.
But this isn’t just about logistics. It’s about shaping how we deliver safe, and inclusive journeys for children and young people within the London Borough of Haringey. You’ll have the scope to redesign processes, influence policy, and embed a culture of excellence that puts children at the heart of everything we do.
You’ll lead a multidisciplinary team, manage contracts and compliance, and ensure our service is high-quality, cost-effective, and responsive to the needs of our community.

About the Team

The SEND Travel Assistance Team is a passionate, collaborative group committed to delivering exceptional travel support to Haringey’s most vulnerable residents. Our team includes Passenger Attendant Managers, Travel Training Coordinators, and Contract Compliance Officers, all working together to ensure every journey is safe, respectful, and tailored to individual needs.
We work closely with families, schools, and service providers to build trust and deliver solutions that truly make a difference.

About You

We’re seeking a strategic thinker and hands-on leader with a proven track record of managing large teams within transport or operational environments. You’ll bring deep knowledge of School Transport Regulations and safeguarding practices, alongside a proactive approach to risk management, service improvement, and stakeholder engagement. Your ability to lead with purpose and drive meaningful change will be key to delivering high-quality, inclusive services that meet the needs of our community.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse groups are essential. You’ll be passionate about inclusion, innovation, and delivering outstanding public service. Experience in public procurement, managing service level agreements, and handling complex complaints or Freedom of Information (FOI) requests will be highly valued, as will your commitment to continuous improvement and collaborative working.
