About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
The Resident Participation Officer is a newly created role within the Policy and Strategy team, designed to enhance public participation in corporate projects. Haringey is known as “the world in one borough,” and ensuring diverse resident voices are heard on matters of interest is a key priority. This role plays a crucial part in delivering the Haringey Deal by fostering representative participation that reflects the richness of the borough’s communities. The Resident Participation Officer will support and facilitate engagement with residents through both online platforms and face-to-face interactions in community settings, helping to build inclusive and meaningful connections.
About the team
The Policy and Strategy team is part of the Culture, Strategy, and Communities directorate within the Strategy, Comms, and Collaboration corporate area. The team plays a vital role in shaping council-wide initiatives, offering support across policy and strategy development, equalities, and public participation. Their work includes leading on corporate strategy and planning documents such as the Borough Vision, Corporate Delivery Plan, and Haringey Deal, as well as developing key policies like the Translation and Interpretation Policy. They also provide tailored support for service areas, ensuring policies align with strategic priorities. In addition, the team advises on the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), supporting Equality Impact Assessments (EQIAs) and coordinating the Budget/MTFS equalities cumulative EQIA process. Their expertise extends to fostering best practices in public participation, offering guidance and assurance across engagement methods, from consultation to co-production.
About you
We are looking for candidates with experience in community engagement within diverse communities. This experience may have been gained in a local authority or other sectors, such as the voluntary and community sector. Strong communication skills, empathy, and sensitivity are essential, along with the ability to engage with the public constructively, whether one-on-one or in group settings.
