About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to welcome Guests at Mulberry Junction, the Council’s resource centre for single people aged 18-50 affected by or at risk of homelessness in Haringey. The service provides on-the-spot information and support around housing, health and wellbeing to enable people affected by homelessness to achieve their personal goals.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative service designed in partnership with people affected by homelessness to deliver a service that truly reflects the diversity of Haringey.
The Navigator will offer practical support to connect people to the services and opportunities that will enable them to achieve positive housing, health, wellbeing and learning outcomes. To achieve this, the Navigator role will work with people and services from across Haringey to support people to access information, advice, support and opportunity that is relevant to them.
About you
We’re looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dedicated Navigator to join the team at Mulberry Junction. As the post-holder you will work 1:1 with guests to identify their needs and make appropriate onward referrals. You will be working in partnership with Homes for Haringey, multidisciplinary teams, specialist staff and external partners to support our guests affected by homelessness to achieve their goals.
The post involves working on a rota along with the rest of the team, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am- 6pm.
You will:
- Confident working in a 1:1 capacity with people, to help them identify their priorities and goals.
- Possess experience working with adults experiencing substance use, mental health issues and those affected by homelessness
- Focused on finding solutions to sometimes complex problems and working with other people and organisations to do so
- Be committed to developing services with the people who use them, to reflect the diversity of Haringey.
- Be committed to creating a welcoming, positive and focused environment.
- Confident communicating to a wide range of people with respect.
- Have experience working in a psychologically informed environment or awareness of the approach
- Be solution focused and motivated to tackle the causes and effects of homelessness with a personalised, collaborative, and dynamic approach
- Feel confident working in partnership with a range of internal and external partners
We are particularly interested in hearing from people with personal experience of homelessness, mental health, substance use or criminal justice services and from Black and Minority Ethnic communities. We recognise that the LGBTQI+ communities are over-represented in homelessness services and underrepresented in the work force. We strongly encourage applications from these communities. We are also welcoming applications from Romanian and Polish speakers particularly.
We value passion and commitment over professional experience and encourage applicants to consider the transferable skills they have learnt in all areas of their lives.
