About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the Role
The Chief Executive’s Office sits at the heart of the Council, working directly with the Chief Executive and six Executive Directors. This is a busy, fast-paced and high-profile team that ensures senior leaders are fully supported, well-prepared and able to focus on delivering for residents.
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Executive Assistant to join this dynamic team. You will play a pivotal role in supporting our Executive Directors, managing complex diaries, coordinating meetings and handling a wide range of enquiries from residents, councillors and stakeholders.
Acting as a key link between Directors and colleagues across the organisation and beyond, you will help build and maintain strong working relationships with politicians, partners and key stakeholders. You will also oversee incoming enquiries, ensuring they are managed professionally and responded to in a timely manner.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working at the centre of decision-making.
About the Team
You will be working within the Chief Executive’s Support Office, alongside the Executive Support Manager and a team of three Executive Assistants. The team works in close collaboration with the Head of the Chief Executive’s Office and three Business Managers to provide seamless, high-quality support to the Council Leadership Team.
This is a highly collaborative environment where workloads are shared and priorities can shift quickly. You will work closely with colleagues to ensure consistent and effective support across the leadership team, stepping in to provide cover and assistance where needed. The team operates with a strong sense of collective responsibility, taking pride in delivering a professional, responsive and coordinated service.
About You
You will have experience supporting senior leaders – ideally at Chief Executive or Director level within a local authority or similarly complex organisation. Highly organised and proactive, you are able to manage competing priorities with confidence and efficiency. You have strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and a calm, solutions-focused approach when working under pressure.
You are a collaborative team player who takes initiative and ownership, with the ability to quickly resolve issues and keep things moving. Enthusiastic and motivated, you take pride in delivering a high-quality service and share our commitment to getting things right first time.
Working for Haringey
At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.
Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
