About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the Role
As our Corporate Building Manager, you’ll hold a critical position with comprehensive day-to-day responsibility and control of the council’s corporate buildings. Your primary focus will be ensuring these buildings are safe, secure, and exceptionally well-managed for all staff, visitors, and other users.
Beyond direct building oversight, you’ll also have management responsibility for the Assistant Building Manager and Building Support Officers (BSOs). You’ll ensure their responsibilities and workloads are effectively aligned to support the management of our corporate buildings. This role empowers you to be the key point of contact for any issues, actively reviewing how the buildings operate, and supporting the Portfolio Manager in enhancing their function and efficiency. As an integral member of the Facilities team, you’ll also collaborate closely with professionals across various departments that utilize our corporate buildings.
About the Team
The Corporate Landlord team is a dynamic group of individuals with an in-depth knowledge of facilities management, and we are dedicated to supporting our colleagues in other departments and services to ensure a safe and pleasant working environment. We always emphasise teamwork and effective communication, and we have a commitment to supporting the Council’s goals for our residents. We pride ourselves on always being proactive and innovative and finding solutions to issues that may arise.
About You
We’re looking for a highly proactive and results-driven Corporate Building Manager with a strong drive to excel. You will have a number of years’ experience in Facilities Management, demonstrating excellent knowledge of facilities services and comprehensive building management expertise. We value strong communicators who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and who possess excellent problem-solving skills, adaptability, and flexibility.
Ideally, you’ll have a degree-level qualification or equivalent, and experience with line-management responsibilities. Additionally, a qualification in IWFM or RICS, an IOSH or NEBOSH General Certificate, and professional membership of IWFM or BIFM are highly desirable. You should also be adept at managing a complex and demanding workload with multiple priorities and capable of communicating technical and/or complex information to diverse audiences. Your ability to work positively with a range of stakeholders, including elected members, community representatives, and service users, is also key.
Working for Haringey
At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.
Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement up to 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and well-being support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
