About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Swimming Teacher to join our Leisure Services team in Haringey. In this role, you will deliver swimming lessons across the Swim England Learn to Swim stages 1–7, as well as adult and child pre-school classes. You will also support school swimming programmes and Haringey Aquatics, ensuring that our swimming offer is inclusive for children with disabilities, home-schooled pupils, and those progressing beyond Stage 7. Your responsibilities will include preparing lesson plans, setting up and maintaining equipment, recording pupil progress, and celebrating achievements with certificates and awards. Safeguarding is central to the role, and you will be expected to follow all child protection procedures. Evening and weekend work will be part of the role to meet community demand.

About the team

You will be part of a dedicated swimming teaching team working across Park Road Leisure Centre & Lido and Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, with the possibility of supporting other pools in Haringey. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will collaborate closely with Centre Managers, Duty Managers, and the Community Engagement & Sales Officer. The team is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all residents. Together, we aim to deliver excellent customer service, promote healthy lifestyles, and make swimming accessible to everyone in our diverse community. You will be supported with corporate training, regular performance reviews, and opportunities to expand your skills in aquatic disciplines.

About you

We are seeking someone qualified with a Swim England Level 2 or equivalent, with a strong understanding of the Learn to Swim programme. You should be confident in providing feedback to children, parents, and adults, and able to handle customer queries with sensitivity. A positive, adaptable attitude and the ability to work evenings and weekends are essential. You will need to understand pool safe operating procedures, health and safety in leisure centres, and equal opportunities policies. A valid DBS check is required. It would be an advantage if you hold an NPLQ lifeguard qualification, a National Rescue Award, or other aquatic discipline certifications. If you are passionate about teaching, thrive in a community-focused environment, and want to make a difference to people’s lives through swimming, we would love to hear from you.
