About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents

About the Role

As a Surveyor – Disrepair / Damp & Mould, you will play a vital role in ensuring that Haringey’s housing stock is safe, compliant, and well maintained. Working across a diverse portfolio of approximately 20,000 tenanted and leasehold homes , you will lead on diagnosing, managing, and resolving cases of damp, mould, and building disrepair.

Your work will include carrying out pre  and post inspections, condition surveys and joint site visits with operatives, contractors and external specialists. You will prepare detailed specifications and reports, oversee works on site, and ensure all activity meets statutory, health and safety, and regulatory requirements.

The role also involves supporting legal disrepair cases by interpreting expert reports, preparing evidence and producing clear, robust documentation that may be used in court proceedings. This is a hands on, technically demanding role requiring strong diagnostic skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage multiple workstreams effectively.

About the Team

You will join the Housing Repairs Service within the Adults, Housing and Health directorate, responsible for maintaining the council’s extensive housing portfolio. The team works collaboratively with surveyors, works coordinators, contractors, legal providers, building control, and senior managers to deliver high quality, responsive repairs services.

We are committed to ensuring residents live in safe, healthy homes, with a strong focus on compliance, building safety and customer satisfaction. The service promotes professionalism, technical excellence and continuous improvement – with surveyors acting as key technical advisors on building pathology, damp and mould and disrepair issues.

About You

You are a technically capable, detail driven surveyor who takes pride in delivering high quality, compliant and customer focused repairs services. You bring a practical, investigative approach to diagnosing building defects and are confident working independently on site as well as collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and legal partners. You communicate clearly, manage your workload effectively and are motivated by improving housing conditions and resident wellbeing.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
•    Strong knowledge of building construction, defect analysis, and building pathology, including when to engage specialist referrals
•    Proven experience managing damp, mould and disrepair cases, including understanding of the Legal Disrepair process and Housing Conditions Protocol
•    Ability to prepare comprehensive specifications, reports, and fully coded Schedules of Works using NHF/NATFED SOR codes
•    Experience managing contractors, including assessing variations, monitoring works quality, and undertaking WIP and post inspections
•    Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, site safety practices, and compliance requirements, including HHSRS implications
•    Ability to interpret and challenge technical or legal expert reports and convert findings into deliverable work programmes
•    Experience using housing management and repairs systems such as Northgate or Service Connect
•    Clear, professional communication skills, including producing technical reports and responding to queries from managers, legal teams, and other stakeholders
•    HNC/HND or equivalent technical qualification
•    Experience preparing evidence, reports, or witness statements for legal proceedings
