About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organised Member support officer to provide comprehensive administrative support to elected Councillors to support them in their statutory role. The key responsibilities include:

  • Providing IT assistance to support members with use of Microsoft office functions
  • Ensuring that Members can fulfil their statutory roles on committee and outside bodies Co-ordinating their member development programme and training sessions.
  • Maintaining statutory records for Democratic services and Scrutiny Team
  • Managing the Petitions process
  • Reviewing and updating the internet and intranet pages as required on democratic matters
  • Ensuring that Members access to information is maintained, to liaise with Committee and Scrutiny colleagues as main point of contact on information
  • Dealing with external enquiries ensuring that responses are professional and to a high standard and meet Council timescales
  • Taking notes at informal meetings as required
  • Liaising with various Council, government, and partner organisations on meetings and other matters related to the service
  • Assisting with support for the Mayor
  • Managing Civic events

About you

You would be working as part of a small close-knit team, at the heart of the Council and reporting to the Democratic services and Scrutiny Manager. This will also mean working closely with all members of the team and providing assistance with projects that support development of the service to elected Members.

You will need to be a self-starter with excellent interpersonal, communication, organisational and IT skills. Our ideal candidate will be someone who is not fazed by working on multiple varying tasks and is passionate about delivering a quality service for elected members. You will also need to have excellent Customer service skills and have proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and good knowledge of finance payment systems.
