About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

Our primary objective is to deliver professional and reliable maintenance and cleaning services to the residents of the Lodges. Our aim is to ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations while exceeding everyone’s expectations. We strive to maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and sanitation within the lodges, promptly addressing and rectifying any potential hazards. Additionally, we undertake general building maintenance tasks to guarantee the safety, security, and overall good condition of the Lodges. By diligently fulfilling these responsibilities, we create a comfortable and well-maintained environment for all residents.

About the Team

Our team consists of five dedicated cleaning and maintenance operatives who work across three lodges. The allocation of our staff is as follows: one operative is assigned to each of the two tiny lodges, namely Birkbeck N8 and Whitehall Lodge N17, while three operatives are responsible for the larger Broadwater Lodge (N17). This strategic distribution ensures that each lodge receives adequate attention and assistance from our skilled team members, allowing us to efficiently address the unique needs of each location.

About You

To thrive in this position, it is essential to possess a fundamental understanding of maintenance and cleaning practices, along with prior experience in the field. Additionally, proficiency in handling hazardous chemicals and familiarity with chemical labels is required. In certain situations, our operatives may be required to work at multiple lodges to address staff shortages or handle unforeseen emergencies, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Furthermore, operatives are expected to work a minimum of one weekend every four weeks to ensure comprehensive coverage. The standard work schedule consists of 36 hours per week, spread across five days. Shifts are scheduled between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with each shift lasting 7 hours and 12 minutes, excluding breaks, ensuring appropriate time for completing assigned tasks effectively.
