About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

We are seeking a committed and highly organised Legal Assistant to support our Legal Services team in delivering high‑quality legal work across Social Care (Children and Adults), Education, Employment, and wider council functions. In this role, you will assist lawyers with a broad range of tasks including issuing proceedings, drafting routine court documents, preparing bundles, gathering evidence, conducting research, managing correspondence, and liaising with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. You will handle routine legal enquiries, participate in the daily duty rota, and ensure all work meets Lexcel and corporate performance standards, contributing to the smooth and efficient delivery of legal services

About the team

You will join a professional and supportive Legal Services team within the Culture, Strategy & Engagement Directorate. The service works collaboratively across multiple specialist areas, including Social Care, Education, Employment, Contracts, Criminal Litigation, Property and Planning. You will work closely with Principal Lawyers, team managers, service managers, courts, counsel, government departments, and external legal partners to ensure cases progress smoothly and clients receive an excellent standard of service. The team is committed to continuous improvement, effective use of case management systems, and providing proactive, enabling support to colleagues across the council

About you

You will bring strong organisational skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. You should hold a law degree and be proficient in using MS Office and IT systems, with the ability to carry out legal research and support case preparation effectively. Experience working in a legal assistant role, particularly within Children’s or Adult Safeguarding, is highly desirable. You will work calmly under pressure, contribute positively to team objectives, demonstrate good customer care skills, and show a commitment to personal development, equalities, and flexible working across a changing legal environment. You must also be willing to attend meetings and travel to locations both inside and outside the borough when required.
