About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
We are looking for a committed and proactive Estate Services Operative to join our Placemaking and Housing directorate. In this hands‑on role, you will be responsible for maintaining a designated estate “patch,” ensuring communal areas are clean, safe and welcoming for residents. Your duties will include cleaning lifts, lobbies, stairwells and external areas; removing graffiti; managing refuse chambers and bulk waste; carrying out minor repairs; and responding quickly to hazards to keep residents safe. You will also be expected to report issues such as vandalism, tenancy breaches, abandoned vehicles or grounds maintenance concerns, ensuring the estate remains well‑managed and secure
About the team
You will join the Estate Services team within the Estates and Neighbourhoods service, working under the direction of the Estate Services Team Leader. The team plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and safety of tenants and leaseholders by delivering high‑quality caretaking and cleaning services across Haringey estates. You will work closely with Neighbourhood Managers, contractors and residents, helping to build strong local relationships and ensuring that vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals are supported by reporting concerns appropriately. This is a community‑focused team that takes pride in creating clean, safe and well‑maintained neighbourhoods
About you
You will bring experience using cleaning materials and equipment, along with the ability to identify repairs and carry out basic maintenance or handy‑person tasks. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will interact daily with residents, colleagues and contractors, requiring you to be helpful, approachable and tactful. You’ll be comfortable working independently, managing a physically active role involving manual handling, repetitive movements and outdoor work in varying weather conditions. A good awareness of health and safety, safeguarding, and the needs of vulnerable community members is essential, with additional skills such as BICS qualifications or experience working with the public considered desirable
