About the Role

We are looking for a person who is calm, consistent and approachable – especially under pressure; who can lead by example with high – quality practice; showing strong emotional intelligence when supporting staff and families; and be reliable and solution focused.  You will need a deep understanding of the EYFS and child development and an ability to model outstanding interactions with children, support staff to improve through coaching, keep a strong focus on children’s wellbeing and learning outcomes.

As a Deputy Manager, you will need to provide consistent leadership and clear directions for the team ensuring everyone understands expectations and feels supported in their role. Maintain high standards of practice at all times, leading by example and promoting quality across all areas of provision. Acting as a trusted link between staff and management, communicate effectively fostering a culture of openness and respect, taking ownership and accountability of your responsibilities whilst supporting a positive, solution focused culture that encourages teamwork, resilience, and continuous improvement.

Additionally, you will need to confidently support the nursery manager in the day to day running of the nursery – to be highly organised, dependable, and proactive with a clear understanding of how the nursery operates daily. You will also be required to lead in the role of SENCO, supporting the individual needs of children and building strong relationships with parents and families.

About You

– Applicants will require a minimum of level 3 in Children’s Care Learning and Development or hold an equivalent qualification. 
– Preferred further qualification in childcare, early years education or management 
– Proven experience in a deputy managers role 
– Confident experience in health and safety requirements, undertaking risk assessments and following policies and procedures. 
– Have experience with working with young children and be a confident key person with solid knowledge of child development, the EYFS, individual learning styles and how to support families through guidance, empathy and partnership working
– Be an inspirational role model to children and other colleagues and students 
– Be an effective team player, being available to pause, support, reflect and enhance practice on the spot as well as through staff discussion opportunities
– To have experience of leading on planning, be a visionary for new and exciting provocations/activities for children to play and learn
– To have experience in leading on supporting children with SEND, supporting children with Early years support plans. 
– To have experience of supervising staff, undertaking appraisals and undertaking personnel tasks ensuring staff health and wellbeing 
– To have good literacy, communication and organisation skills 
– To have excellent IT skills to effectively manage records and reporting systems
– To have excellent skills in teamwork, using your initiative and being forward thinking.
