About Haringey
About us Haringey Council is one of 32 in London. Haringey is an extremely diverse borough, and the Council has set clear ambitious objectives through its borough plan to make Haringey a better place to live, encourage investment, and create opportunities that all can share. Haringey’s vision for the future is one of sustainable growth, in housing and jobs, and on helping our residents and businesses take advantage of that growth. There are huge ambitions for Haringey. As the shape of local government continues to change, we are determined to rise to the challenge and find new ways to ensure that our residents enjoy the best opportunities in life. Working at Haringey gives you the opportunity to play a part in meeting those ambitions on behalf of everyone who calls the borough their home.
About the role
This is a unique opportunity to lead on a high profile placemaking and regeneration project in London. Haringey Council is working on an ambitious programme on Broadwater Farm which will see £230m invested into the estate. The programme includes the development of almost 300 new homes, the retrofit of 800 homes, and works to the public realm to tackle the legacy of the original ‘streets in the sky’ design.
Plans for the new homes were approved late last year. Alongside these plans an urban design framework was agreed to provide a placemaking design framework to guide and scope a wide range of future physical interventions on the estate as part of the overall integrated urban design strategy. This design framework was developed in close collaboration with the residents and wider community and stakeholders.
This is a placemaking project that will realise ‘on the ground’ interventions to improve and enhance Broadwater Farm and its environs. Therefore, we are seeking an experienced professional to take the Urban Design Framework and related projects forward into its delivery phases. This will require further rounds of engagement and co-design work to shape, bring forward and deliver the concepts and ideas in the Framework. The projects are varied, from enhancing current green spaces, building stronger connections to the surrounding parks and streets, and coordinating the commercial/community offer. Importantly, the priorities for the post holder will be guided and informed by local residents through on-going engagement.
Funding for works already exists within the programme budget and the post holder will be expected to actively seek opportunities to draw in additional funding to support the delivery of schemes.
About the team
The Broadwater Farm team is a small, multi-disciplinary team leading on all aspects of the regeneration programme, including all construction works, engagement and service improvement works. We’re predominantly based on the estate a minimum of three days a week. The team is part of the wider Housing and Placemaking Directorate, which has an ambitious programme of regeneration, housebuilding, and refurbishment across the borough. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the directorate to support and deliver their work.
About you
We are seeking a candidate who possesses the following qualifications and skills:
- Experience in leading, managing, and successfully delivering complex multi-disciplinary placemaking or regeneration schemes that encompass physical, social, and economic outcomes.
- A proven track record in commissioning and managing work from external providers, ensuring efficient coordination and execution.
- Exceptional communication skills for effective collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work seamlessly with residents and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds is essential.
- Experience in project and programme management. This includes the ability to coordinate across internal teams, communicate the ambitions for transformation, and develop, implement, maintain, and monitor multiple projects with a strong focus on meeting tight deadlines.
