About the Team
The Trading Standards Team is based within Regulatory Services. We are part of a wider Community Safety and Enforcement Service within the directorate of Environment and Resident Experience.
As a Trading Standards Specialist Officer, you will be required to tackle a broad portfolio of work with a wide range of people and businesses. Your responsibilities will include supporting local businesses and helping consumers by tackling unfair and unsafe trading practices through enforcement, advice, and education.
About the Role
We are looking two specialist officers who will take the lead in two different areas of work:
- General Trading Standards Enforcement Lead – tackling illicit tobacco and alcohol, age restricted sales and product safety.
- Private Sector Housing Lead – taking responsibility for trading standards matters relating to Private Sector Housing which is now one of the largest housing sectors in the borough. We have two active property licensing schemes which are integral to delivering better quality private rented accommodation within the borough by empowering tenants, supporting compliant landlords and taking clear and robust action against non-complaint landlords and letting agents. You will also be dealing with Domestic/Commercial Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) Regulations, Client Money Protection, Tenants Fees and the Consumer Rights Act.
About You
Both candidates will need to be enthusiastic, dedicated, creative individuals who want to be a part of our growing team of regulatory officers. We need people who are caring, courageous and wants to make a difference to people life. You must have a strong work ethic and good communications skills as the role involves working in collaboration with several other teams to produce high quality outcomes and to achieve the team’s performance targets.
You will have:
- a sound knowledge of Trading Standards legislation and good practise.
- Sound knowledge of Intelligence Operation Models and analysing intelligence information and data sources to identity trends.
- Extensive enforcement experience.
- Experience of high-level partnership working and contributing effectively to cross cutting agendas.
- Experience of managing projects/reviews in support of delivering priorities and objectives.
- Have a Diploma in Trading Standards or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards or equivalent DPCP/Board of Trade
