About the Team

The Trading Standards Team is based within Regulatory Services. We are part of a wider Community Safety and Enforcement Service within the directorate of Environment and Resident Experience.
The team tackles a broad portfolio of work with a wide range of people and businesses. Our responsibilities include supporting local businesses and helping consumers by tackling unfair and unsafe trading practices through enforcement, advice, and education.

About the Role

As a Trading Standards Enforcement Officer, you will be working as part of a team to enforce Trading Standards Legislation.  Unqualified candidates will be given the opportunity to pursue a Trading Standards professions qualification, whilst undertaking on-the-job learning in the workplace. You will work to achieve compliance with statutory requirements through communication, persuasion, guidance, or enforcement of legislation.

About You

You will have:
1st Tier

  • GCSE Math & English (Grade or above/equivalent) 2 A’ levels or a level 3 Diploma or equivalent.
  • An active interest in Trading Standards and some experience of regulatory enforcement.
  • A proven ability and willingness to study
  • Sound knowledge of using a wide range of information technology, including Microsoft office and databases.
  • Experience of partnership working and contributing effectively to cross cutting agendas.

2nd Tier

  • Level 6 Trading Standards Apprenticeship, Diploma in Trading Standards or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards or equivalent DPCP/Board of Trade.
  • Detailed knowledge/understanding of the legislative framework relevant to trading standards.
  • Experience of managing a complex caseload and taking enforcement action for non-compliance.
  • Ability to analyse data/intelligence to establish trends.
