About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

You will be working as part of a busy and fast-paced in-house legal team, providing vital support to the team’s lawyers and contributing to the management of a diverse and stimulating caseload. Your role will involve hands-on experience across a broad range of legal matters, including commercial debt recovery, leaseholder service charge recovery and compliance, contract disputes, residential possession proceedings, housing litigation, anti-social behaviour cases, and other complex disputes. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your legal skills in a dynamic environment while making a meaningful impact on the delivery of legal services.

About the team

The Litigation Team is a well-established group of 19 professionals, including Senior Lawyers, Lawyers, Senior Legal Assistants, and Legal Assistants. As part of this dynamic team, you will report to the Acting Principal Lawyer and work closely with other Lawyers, supporting them on a varied and engaging caseload. The team handles litigation across all areas of the Council’s work, with a particular focus on housing litigation, commercial property disputes, and disrepair claims. This collaborative environment offers a valuable opportunity to gain exposure to a broad spectrum of legal issues while contributing to impactful public sector work.

About you

We’re looking for a confident and experienced legal professional who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You will bring a strong foundation in litigation and a proven ability to deliver clear, concise legal advice across a broad range of cases. Your ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and remain calm under pressure will be key to your success in this role.

You’ll be highly organised, with excellent time management skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and key stakeholders will come naturally to you, and you’ll demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment in all interactions.

Your communication skills—both written and verbal—will be exceptional, and you’ll be comfortable navigating complex legal issues with clarity and confidence. A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous learning will round out your profile as a valued member of our legal team.
