About the role

The Senior Health and Safety Adviser (Property and Trades – Housing) role at Haringey Council is a critical position responsible for supporting the effective delivery of the Council’s Health and Safety Strategy, leading to a risk managed approach to meeting the Council’s statutory responsibilities. You will be empowered to support the Corporate H&S Manager by leading the development, implementation, promotion, review and monitoring the Council’s Health and Safety Management Systems and associated policies and procedures.

About you

We are seeking a proactive individual with a strong drive to excel as a senior adviser with the capabilities to enhance and nurture the health and safety advisers within the Housing side (responsible for housing, trades, construction, capital works and projects) of the Corporate Health and Safety team.
The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of the NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) and GradIOSH (or equivalent professional membership). The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in line management with examples of how they have overcome challenges. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience of providing competent health and safety advice in the public sector or for other large multi-site organisations, based on detailed knowledge of the practical application of current occupational health and safety legislation, best practice in accident and ill health prevention and other related issues, offering creative, constructive and cost-effective solutions. They will demonstrate impeccable written and verbal communication skills, consistently upholding a standard of professionalism in all interactions. Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, will be essential in efficiently managing tasks and facilitating seamless communication within the team.
In addition, the candidate should possess exceptional organisational prowess, adeptly handling multiple tasks and prioritising them for optimal efficiency. Their demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion will be a cornerstone of their success in this role, ensuring the smooth and secure functioning of health and safety processes and procedures.
