About the role

We need a communications specialist who is great with the media and able to get the coverage Haringey Council deserves; and someone who feels just as comfortable creating and delivering on a range of campaigns.

You might come from a marketing communications background – or you may already be working in media and PR. You will need to be media savvy – as confident talking to national journalists as you would be talking to the local community.

You’ll have a strong background in marketing communications with knowledge of the full range of communications disciplines and channels. You will be responsible for writing and producing external communications. You will produce content for Haringey People, the council’s flagship magazine, our social media and other channels.

Main Responsibilities

To manage and promote the reputation of the council through the local, regional, national, specialist and broadcast media, and through effective partnership working.

To be responsible for providing a first-class media relations service, including answering media enquiries, writing press releases and issuing statements to meet journalists’ deadlines and agreed targets.

To plan and implement proactive marketing and media campaigns in order to maximise opportunities, promote the organisation and change behaviour.

To contribute to the council’s social media strategy through fully integrated campaigns and communications planning and producing content for social media channels.

To work with colleagues across the organisation to ensure a proactive and joined up approach to all communications activity.

To provide professional advice and support on communications issues to elected members and council officers.

To raise the profile of the council in the national, specialist and trade press by pitching and placing stories and by-line pieces.

To contribute and provide editorial support for a range of external publications, other material and corporate publications including Haringey People, the council’s residents’ magazine

To ensure communications campaigns and messages reflect the council’s corporate priorities.

To Manage the quality, accessibility and effectiveness of all information produced to ensure it is relevant to the target audience, meets its objectives and is a good representation of the council and the services it provides.

To represent and act on behalf of the Communications Service at meetings and events as appropriate.

To provide an out-of-hours media relations service as part of a duty rota.

General Responsibilities

Understanding, knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensures compliance with Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements.

Understanding and commitment to promoting and implementing the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies.

Knowledge and experience of using IT.

To undertake any other temporary responsibilities aligned with the overall purpose and grade of the role.
