We are investing in creating a better borough for all our residents and improving the lives of children and young people in Haringey is our first corporate priority. We are located in the north of the capital with a population of approximately 250,000 people and a growing population of 0–19-year-olds. We are a diverse and fast-changing borough and tomorrow’s leaders, artists and innovators are busy growing up here.
Haringey Council is transforming its services for children and young people, and have already made exciting, innovative changes as we strive for excellence in all we do. We are a council with high ambitions; a place to work that is full of energy and focus. Our teams have passion, integrity and commitment, and people who join us, do so as they see Haringey Council as a learning organisation, and the people that work here strive for continuous improvement in their practice, aiming high to ensure we provide outstanding outcomes for our children.
About the Role
This is a very important role in the Council that supports the government agenda in ensuring that all young people receive world-class education which allows them to reach their potential and live a more fulfilled lie, regardless of background. That education should be provided in a safe environment, whether at school or at home.
As an Elective Home Education Advisory Teacher, you would be responsible for providing advice and guidance to parent/carers wishing to, or who are currently, electively home educating their children in Haringey.
You would be expected to arrange and conduct educational assessment visits to families electively home educating their children. To provide reports on assessments, educational progress, and any concerns for each child. This role also involves liaising with professionals to ensure electively home educated children are adequately safeguarded, learning, and enjoying their EHE.
The Schools and Learning Service ensure that the education provision in Haringey is of high quality for all pupils and young people. All teams within the Service work within the Borough Plan Priority 2 framework of ensuring that every young person, whatever their background, has a pathway to success for the future, including access to high quality education, employment, and training.
The Service is exceptionally busy throughout the year and is a challenging place to work. Applicants must have a teaching qualification with experience of teaching. You will have excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, including experience of working with school aged children and with vulnerable families from diverse backgrounds.
It is also desirable that you have knowledge of Elective Home Education legislation and guidance and relevant policies and processes relating to EHE. You will be organised, methodical and able to manage and prioritise your own workload.
