About Haringey

About us Haringey Council is one of 32 in London. Haringey is an extremely diverse borough, and the Council has set clear ambitious objectives through its borough plan to make Haringey a better place to live, encourage investment and create opportunities that all can share. Haringey’s vision for the future is one of sustainable growth, in housing and jobs and on helping our residents and businesses take advantage of that growth. We have got huge ambitions for Haringey. As the shape of local government continues to change, we are determined to rise to the challenge and find new ways to ensure that our residents enjoy the best opportunities in life. Working at Haringey gives you the opportunity to play a part in meeting those ambitions on behalf of everyone who calls the borough their home.

About the role

Are you looking for a new, exciting, and challenging role that directly improves the lives of our residents and the natural environment? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for an organised, self-motivated, and dedicated professional to manage our award-winning Finsbury Park.

Finsbury Park is one of our flagship parks, holding a Green Flag award in recognition of its internationally benchmarked standards and provision. The park offers a mixture of open parkland, formal gardens, sports facilities, lakes, and mature trees including an arboretum. In addition to this, the park is home to a busy events program facilitating festivals and live music performances throughout the season. Parkland Walk Nature Reserve connects to Finsbury Park and provides a pedestrian and cycle route that links the park with Crouch Hill Park, Crouch End, and Highgate Underground Station.

With the skills to build strong relationships, a commitment to improving outcomes, and the ability to work proactively, you will lead a team to ensure the smooth operational running of the park, meeting quality and safety standards at all times. Please note that the area of work is flexible to the needs of the service and is subject to change when required.

About you

You will have managerial experience working in amenity horticulture, grounds maintenance, or a parks and gardens environment, preferably in the public sector. You will have the ability to lead and organise staff, manage a busy schedule with competing priorities, and deal with key stakeholders. A strong sense of ownership, initiative, and communication skills are required to build collaborative partnerships with service users, colleagues, and volunteer groups. You will be confident in setting work schedules, overseeing contractual works, and delivering horticultural renovations and improvements. Nature and conservation will be at the heart of everything you do, and you will be an integral part of helping the council to achieve its climate change action plan and carbon net zero target.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community.  Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.
