About the Team

The Committees Team supports over 100 meetings per year and need to provide timely advice to officers on the Council’s Constitution which sets out the governance arrangements of the Council and requirements of a decision making to ensure that decisions are taken forward at the correctly and lawfully. The team work closely with senior officers as part of their daily role. The team will provide guidance on internal processes and will facilitate working relationships between members and officers to ensure that any issues relating to a reports or planned decision making are identified and discussed.

About the Role

We are looking for a team manager to lead the Committees team. This is an essential team at the heart of the Council, co-ordinating executive and non-executive meetings and decision-making processes of the Council, ensuring compliance with statute and the Council’s Constitution. The daily routine of the role is co-ordinating some high-profile Committee meetings and compiling concise accurate minutes for these meetings. Also providing daily advice on key decisions and Council’s Forward Plan.
This role involves managing three members of the Committees team to ensure the Council’s various decision-making processes are aligned and supporting the team’s development, confidence and experience.
You will also be supporting delivery of a key corporate project on implementation of a new report clearing process on SharePoint. This will mean facilitating continued development and improvement of report writing processes across the Council and providing support to officers with this new system and process.
The role will also involve identifying opportunities to improve the service and deputising for the Democratic services and Scrutiny Manager.

Moreover, effective communication is instrumental in conveying complex legal concepts to a diverse audience, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed and engaged in the decision-making process.
Proactivity is another key attribute for individuals in local authority positions. The dynamic nature of public administration requires individuals to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and take initiative to address issues before they escalate. Being proactive not only contributes to the efficiency of local government operations but also demonstrates a commitment to delivering high-quality services to the community.
