About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
This is an exciting time to join our team. Haringey is a borough of opportunities and potential and is fast becoming a celebrated destination for music and sport and will be Borough of Culture for 2027. We recently launched Opportunity Haringey our new Inclusive Economy Framework which sets our ambition to build on our strengths and creativity to support a fairer and greener economy.
Reporting to the Business Engagement and Growth Manager, and working with some of the sub-region’s most exciting, growing small businesses, you will lead on Haringey’s innovative business loans programmes – the Opportunity Investment Fund and sub-regional Productive Valley Fund. The post holder will help the Council build upon their success and ensuring that they continue to deliver benefits for local businesses and are targeted towards social value outcomes like good work and the green, circular economy.
The post holder will manage an end-to-end process including: developing a marketing and promotion plan for the funds to attract new enquiries, handling queries and applications from new enquiries and managing the pipeline, providing support for successful applicants, meeting with current businesses to evaluate their performance and risk, and report writing and presenting outcomes to officers, members, and stakeholders.
About the team
Make a real difference! Join our new Inclusive Economy service, where you’ll be instrumental in delivering Opportunity Haringey, the borough’s Inclusive Economy Framework. We have several exciting new roles available within the service. We’re seeking motivated individuals who are passionate about providing high-quality support to diverse local communities and fostering a more inclusive economy across all areas, from Wood Green to Crouch End, Alexandra Palace to Tottenham. This is the perfect time to join us in executing our plans, supporting local businesses and residents, and preparing for the London Borough of Culture 2027 and Euro 2028.
About you
The successful candidate will possess a detailed understanding of the policy environment, political institutions, and governmental processes at both local and central levels, alongside a clear grasp of business growth, planning, and management to ensure loans are allocated and delivered appropriately. An understanding of the local authority landscape, particularly in a post-austerity context, would be advantageous. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of financial management and funding arrangements for local government, including opportunities from commercial activities and the private sector. They must be able to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and persuasively with a range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority, fostering collaboration and building strong relationships. A proven track record of delivering against strategic priorities is essential.
