Contract Terms

Salary: Year 1 & 2 Scale 4 – £23,400 per annum

Year 3 Scale 6 – £28,470 per annum

Year 4 PO1 – £32,988 per annum

Location: Haringey, North London

Contract:  FTC from September 2022 – December 2023

Hours: 36 Hours per week

Closing date: Sunday 2nd October 2022 (Interviews will be held sooner if required)

About the role

Building Control surveyors ensure that Building Regulations and other legislative requirements are followed when buildings are designed and constructed. To ensure high standards in health, safety, sustainability, energy conservation and access requirements are met during the construction of buildings. In addition Building Control also deals with other areas of work that you will become familiar with including dangerous structures, safety at sports grounds, structural engineering, entertainment licencing etc during your training.

You will be supporting a team with a range of tasks associated with Building Control including   providing support and assistance involving administration, Customer Care or IT duties and other tasks that support the team. You will not be expected to have full knowledge of duties but will be working towards learning the role and being able to fulfil it with minimum supervision.

As part of the apprenticeship you will attend college or university at least one day a week working towards your Level 6 qualification, you will also receive regular on-the-job training from your manager and colleagues to help you develop in the role.

Under supervision and during the course of employment candidates are expected to become skilled at: 

  • Understanding how applications are submitted, registered and validated
  • Assessment of Building Regulation Full Plan Applications through learning the skills of plan checking.
  • Undertaking site inspections to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations, London Building Acts and other associated legislation.
  • Providing technical advice to members of the public and other council departments.
  • Consulting, negotiating and instructing architects, surveyors, builders, applicants and consultees to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Investigating unauthorised building work and undertake appropriate enforcement action.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • HNC/Level 4 in a construction or property related discipline or LABC qualification.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Good IT skills and ability to readily grasp to new systems.
  • Customer focussed.
