Commitment to our staff

  • We have a comprehensive in-house training package covers a range of subjects including both personal development as well as skills development.
  • Staff meet regularly with their line manager during their six month probation period to ensure that they have targets set which will help them to learn the job and to become an effective member of the team.
  • New and aspiring managers have a detailed management development programme and a manager’s toolkit of key plans and policies.
  • In May 2005 we achieved the Investor In People award in recognition of our commitment to developing our staff and to ensure that they are aware of the Council's aims and objectives and how they can help us achieve them.
  • In August 2005 we achieved the Positive About Disability symbol. This shows that amongst other commitments, the council is committed to ensuring that job applicants who have a disability are considered for jobs on their merit and that if staff become disabled whilst working for us, that we will do all we can to keep them in employment.
  • All staff have an annual appraisal with their line manager and mid year updates to ensure that they are on target to meet their individual workplan. Each individual workplan is in line with the overall business plan of the section in which they work.
  • A monthly team briefing session has been introduced which gives all staff regular updates on issues of interest.
  • We have an intranet which is a useful source of information, a monthly staff newsletter is circulated and we ask staff for their opinions in an regular staff survey which is carried out by an independent company.
