About Haringey
- Haringey is proud of its diversity, which helps make it a dynamic and rewarding place to live and work.
- The borough is geographically split into the relatively prosperous west and the relatively disadvantaged east and central parts of the borough. Regeneration of parts of the east of borough is a key priority for the council and several initiatives have been undertaken to improve economic prosperity for both businesses and individuals.
- Covering 11.5 square miles in North London, the borough has a population of over 225,000 people, with over half coming from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Approximately 155,000 of our residents are of working age.
- Haringey has a young population. 40% of our residents are aged between 20 – 39 compared with 36% across London.
- There are excellent transport links across the borough with several tube links and mainline stations, making it easy to travel across the borough or to travel into central London.
- Wood Green has a large shopping centre as well as a large cinema complex.
- The borough has many attractions including the Paddock, a rural oasis which backs onto the River Lea, picturesque Highgate village or the specialty shops in Crouch End or Muswell Hill.
- Haringey has many leisure centres where you can work out or you may prefer to relax by going for a long walk in Highgate Woods.
- The Green Flag scheme is a national standard which recognises excellence in public parks and service to the public. Haringey has a high percentage of green space across the borough and we proud to have been awarded a total of 7 green flags, a higher number than any other London borough. Our award winning parks are welcoming, safe and well maintained and provide a refreshing escape from the pressures of city life – whether for a quick visit at lunchtime, after work or to use at the weekend with family or friends.
- The council also has many leisure centres across the borough which can provide range of facilities, many of the centres have undergone substantial refurbishment and are now modern centres which offer a bigger choice of activities than previously.
- Some of Haringey’s famous landmarks include Alexandra Palace - the home of television, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Bruce Castle which is now the home to the Haringey Museum and Archive.
